Abu Dhabi has taken a decisive step towards elevating its innovative T10 cricket tournament by launching a Global Invitation-to-Bid process for team franchises, building directly on the strategic vision outlined by Matt Boucher, CEO of Abu Dhabi Cricket & Sports Hub (ADCSH), in a recent interview to Aletihad.

The bidding window opened on 3 July and will close on 16 July, marking a significant milestone in the tournament's evolution following ADCSH's assumption of majority ownership and stewardship earlier this year, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Emirates Cricket Board.

This shift positions the Abu Dhabi T10 as a long-term national sporting asset with strengthened governance and enhanced commercial potential.

Prospective owners will undergo a thorough, independently managed assessment that goes far beyond financial bids. Deloitte has been appointed to oversee the process, evaluating applicants on governance standards, integrity, reputation, operational expertise, and their commitment to the league's future development.

The two-stage qualification includes an expression of interest phase followed by access to a secure data room for shortlisted bidders, with successful franchises expected to be announced in August.

This process aligns closely with the ambitions Boucher expressed for greater ownership stability and the attraction of high-calibre international partners. He highlighted the need for fresh, long-term agreements with global entities capable of driving the tournament forward, noting that stability forms the foundation of a successful event.

The goal is to create a world-class product that continues to draw top players, investors, and audiences while delivering substantial sporting and economic benefits to Abu Dhabi, Boucher had said.

Examples of the calibre of franchise the organisers are targeting can be found right on Abu Dhabi's doorstep with the flagship tournament in the 20-over format, the International League Twenty20 (ILT20).

Mumbai Indians Emirates and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, both based in the emirate during the competition's tenure, demonstrate the global reach and operational excellence that multi-league ownership groups can bring. Their presence underscores the potential for T10 franchises to integrate into a broader international portfolio, enhancing the league's appeal.

Their respective Indians owners also operate sister franchise concerns in other leagues of the world, too.  The 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 will feature eight teams competing at Zayed Cricket Stadium from 7 to 20 November.

Preparations will then accelerate towards player registration and the draft once franchises are confirmed. The tournament, already renowned for attracting international stars and generating strong broadcast interest, is poised for further growth, including expanded media partnerships and improved fan experiences.

This invitation-to-bid represents more than a procurement exercise; it is the practical implementation of Abu Dhabi's commitment to making the T10 one of world cricket's most innovative, best-governed, and globally resonant competitions.
