The UAE Football Association has announced its intention to support the Gianni Infantino to retain his position as FIFA President for the 2027–2031 term.

In a press statement issued on Thursday from the office of chairman, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the FA said the support “reflects the significant progress achieved under Infantino’s leadership in recent years, including major developments across technical and organisational areas of football, as well as in governance, competitions and regulatory frameworks, in addition to his strong relationships with member national associations.

“The UAE Football Association and FIFA share strong ties through a number of joint initiatives, most notably the organisation of tournaments, hosting meetings and workshops for coaches and referees, developing legal and regulatory frameworks and collaborative programmes aimed at supporting the continued growth of football.”

After taking over the reins of world football’s governing body in 2016 from Sepp Blatter, Infantino returned in 2019 and 2023, and has now expressed his intentions of continuing in his post for the period ahead on his personal social media accounts last week.

The Italian, 56, oversaw the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was instrumental in Saudi Arabia winning the 2034 World Cup bid with restrictions on the candidatures of those applying.

“I am happy to share that I will be a candidate for the election of the FIFA President next year and I thank you, my global football community, as well as my family for their continued love and support... the journey goes on!” he wrote.
