ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has attended the fifth and final round of the 2024 Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, held at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi.

His Highness presented trophies to the winners in both the Gi and No-Gi categories, honouring the clubs and academies that delivered exceptional performances and demonstrated a strong competitive spirit throughout the inaugural edition of the championship, which spanned five rounds across various emirates in the UAE.

His Highness awarded the Gi category trophy to Al Ain Sports Club and the No-Gi category trophy to Sharjah Mixed Martial Arts Club. His Highness also met representatives from the tournament’s sponsors, commending their role in encouraging talented sportspeople to continue their journey of excellence and in sponsoring major sporting events across the emirate and the UAE.



His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the Championship's central role in nurturing young Emirati talent in jiu-jitsu and in equipping athletes with advanced skills and experience to develop champions and build on the national team’s ongoing success.

His Highness congratulated the winners, praising their technical excellence and strong performances, which reflect their determination to succeed. He also emphasised that such tournaments significantly enhance the UAE’s sports scene and reinforce Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination for nurturing champions.

Furthermore, His Highness reaffirmed the UAE leadership’s commitment to advancing jiu-jitsu and empowering emerging Emirati athletes by supporting national efforts to establish state-of-the-art sports facilities, attract world-class expertise, and host and organise local and international tournaments.

His Excellency Abdulmunem Alsayed Mohammed Alhashmi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, President of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Union, and Senior Vice President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to the wise leadership. He said: “We extend our heartfelt thanks to His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his unwavering support and enduring commitment to sports. His dedication reflects the leadership’s vision to advance jiu-jitsu as a means to promote physical and mental wellbeing, instil noble values, and elevate the nation’s standing on global platforms.

“It is not merely about continuing the journey of achievements but about fostering a society that embraces sports as a cornerstone of sustainable development. This approach contributes to building an enlightened, health-conscious community that strengthens the UAE’s position in various fields.”

The inaugural edition of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship attracted strong public attendance and featured intense matches across various age groups. Spanning five rounds, the Championship featured two events in Abu Dhabi and one in Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, respectively.
