Alhayam AlBloushi, a player from the UAE national fencing team, achieved a historic milestone by winning the gold medal in the under-17 category for the foil competition at the Asian Fencing Cup for Cadets, held at Al Ahli Youth Club, Dubai.

AlBloushi secured the gold medal by defeating Hong Kong champion Alisa Man Yang with a score of 15-14, the margin of victory proof of the intense competition between the two fighters until the Emirati teen sealed victory.

Particularly noteworthy was her victory against the Hong Kong champion in the final, who is considered one of the best in Asia.

The tournament has 148 players from 10 Asian countries competing in the individual and team events across foil, épée, and sabre.

Sheikh Engineer Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the president of the Asian, Arab, and UAE Fencing Federations, as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the International Fencing Federation, presented AlBloushi with the gold medal, alongside the silver and bronze medallists.

Congratulating AlBloushi on her achievement, Al Qasimi emphasised that she demonstrated an ability to face challenges, her determination and will power as part of a philosophy deeply ingrained by the wise leadership of the UAE in the hearts of the nation’s generations.

“Alhayam’s achievement is a new addition to the record of victories for UAE fencing,” said Al Qasimi, “confirming the continued success of Emirati women on the international stage.

“This success is attributed to the federation’s strategic approach, especially concerning the discovery and nurturing of talents, enabling them to compete with the continent’s strongest. This is now being realised in reality.”
