UN Secretary-General António Guterres Friday issued a message to the international community ahead of Ramadan, calling for unity and support for disadvantaged communities across the world.
Emphasising the noble vision of hope and peace embodied by Ramadan, Guterres said in a message delivered by his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, that the vision remains elusive for many members of the human family, with suffering in numerous regions globally due to conflict, hunger, displacement, and discrimination.
The Secretary-General called upon all to heed the timeless message of Ramadan by bridging division, providing aid and hope to those in need, and protecting the rights and dignity of every human being.
