An easyJet flight from Budapest, Hungary to Lyon, France made an unscheduled landing in Austria on Monday after smoke was smelled onboard.
There were no injuries, the British low-cost airline said.
Austrian police said the plane was carrying 143 passengers and six crew members. Emergency services were alerted shortly before 3 pm (1300 GMT), and all passengers were safely evacuated after landing at at the airport in Graz.
EasyJet said the diversion was a routine precautionary measure and attributed the smoky odour to a "technical issue."
The airline stressed that safety is its top priority and that its aircraft are operated in strict accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
A replacement plane was dispatched to continue the flight to Lyon. EasyJet apologised to passengers for the disruption.
