For Emiratis across the country, the value of health insurance lies in the peace of mind it provides - knowing that when they or their loved ones fall sick, they will not have to worry about treatment access. It also means being able to seek medical attention at the first sign of illness.
UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's latest directive to adopt a fully integrated national health insurance system has been widely welcomed. Citizens said this enhanced access to medical care could help them take a more proactive approach to their wellbeing.
UAE national Maryam Al Hurithi said the initiative supports preventive care, early intervention, and long-term health stability.
"An integrated national healthcare system represents an important step toward enhancing quality of life for society," she said.
Aisha Al Zarooni, another Emirati, agreed that one of the biggest benefits of guaranteed healthcare access would be the ability to see a doctor before a condition turns serious. "Stronger preventive healthcare and early detection measures could help reduce future complications and improve overall efficiency," she told Aletihad.
Laila Al Zarooni added that wider access to care means greater reassurance for families. "It is a fundamental step toward enhancing quality of life and achieving health and social stability," she said.
The initiative creates a ripple effect across the healthcare system as a whole, other citizens said.
Maryam Alhindasi said distributing demand across different healthcare providers could help reduce waiting periods and improve the overall patient experience. "From my point of view, adopting an integrated national health insurance system is an excellent and important step that citizens need," she added.
Abdalla Al Ali, an Emirati from Sharjah, agreed that the move would simplify access to hospitals and create a smoother experience for patients. "This directive will directly impact our quality of life for the better," he said.
Hessa Alzahmi added: "Faster appointments and accurate diagnosis mean earlier treatment and avoiding complications."
A UAE national from Umm Al Quwain, Omar Al Aleeli, also emphasised the positive impact of a unified insurance for those who live and work in different emirates. "A national system would make treatments easier and faster for these citizens who regularly move between emirates," he said.
Maryam Al Shehhi described the initiative as a positive step toward strengthening sustainable healthcare, noting its potential role in supporting medical growth and enhancing quality of life. "Health insurance will ensure equality among all citizens in accessing their rights to treatment and advanced healthcare," she said.
Tahira Abdulaziz also pointed to the broader social and economic impact of the initiative. "Adopting a comprehensive national health insurance system is a fundamental step towards building a healthier and more stable society," she said.
