Squid Game actress Lee Joo Sil has died after suffering cardiac arrest at the age of 81, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported on Monday.
She is reported to have been admitted to a hospital in Uijeongbu to the north of Seoul before being declared dead.
Lee's agency said the cause of death was stomach cancer diagnosed three months previously.
Lee first appeared on stage in 1965, going on to star in many South Korean films and having a minor role in the award-winning "Train to Busan" in 2016.
Her international breakthrough came last year in the second season of "Squid Game" in which she plays the mother of a detective and former police officer Hwang Joon Ho.
Lee suffered breast cancer at the start of the 1990s but was subsequently diagnosed as free of cancer
