An Israeli drone on Friday struck a van in southern Lebanon killing two people, the Lebanese Health Ministry said. Two others were injured in the attack in Tayr Debba east of the coastal city of Tyre, according to the ministry.
The Israeli military said that "several terrorists were identified loading a truck with weapons used by the Hezbollah terrorist organization in southern Lebanon."
The Israeli air force "struck the weapon on the vehicle in order to eliminate the threat," the statement posted on Telegram said.
After the drone struck the van, residents nearby reported further explosions in the area.
Lebanese security sources said the van had ammunition inside it which had caused the subsequent blasts.
A fragile ceasefire took effect on November 27 between Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement after more than a year of hostilities, including two months of all-out war when Israel also sent ground troops into Lebanon.
Under the terms of the ceasefire, the Lebanese army is to deploy alongside UN peacekeepers in the south as the Israeli army withdraws over a 60-day period, which expires on January 26.
As part of the deal, Hezbollah should withdraw behind the Litani River about 30 kilometres north of the Israeli-Lebanese border. This matches the terms of UN Resolution 1701, which was intended to resolve the 2006 war in Lebanon.
