The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN), has declared that Israel’s decades-long presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is unlawful and must end as soon as possible.

Relaying the top UN court's Advisory Opinion of July 19, 2024, ICJ President Nawaf Salam said that “the State of Israel’s continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is unlawful” and it is “under an obligation to bring to an end its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as rapidly as possible”.
