To most children, LEGO bricks are simple blocks used to create mini buildings, castles, vehicles, robots, or their favourite characters. For Shaikha Alkaabi, however, each piece is a stroke of colour used to “paint” portraits that pay tribute to the UAE’s leaders.
“I wanted to use LEGO to create something that reflects my culture,” said Alkaabi, the LEGO Ambassador for the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Australia, representing the UAE’s new generation of creative thinkers.
At ADIHEX, Alkaabi is showcasing a series of LEGO masterpieces depicting images of the UAE’s leaders and Sheikhs. “Each portrait was meticulously constructed with reverence and significance,” she explained.
Her creative journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic when, at five years old, she started building rockets and planes. Soon, her imagination led her to craft extraordinary artworks.
One of her standout pieces on display at ADIHEX features LEGO triangles — put together to create a fascinating dual-image portrait. “You see one image from one side, but a completely different vision emerges when you view it from the other,” she said. “Perception, complexity, and enjoyment are key.”
Beyond showcasing her talent, Alkaabi is also teaching other children to build their own stunning portraits, fostering a unique and creative community experience.
