The Abu Dhabi Centre for the Arabic Language launched the Community Campaign to Support Sustainable Reading 2025 at the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi, in celebration of the Year of Community 2025.

The campaign aims to promote sustainable reading habits and highlights the value of the Arabic language in various cultural and social contexts.

By showcasing the centre's diverse programmes and activities through media and community channels, the campaign seeks to foster a deeper appreciation for Arabic literacy across society.

The concept is centred on the idea that reading can effectively strengthen family bonds, enhance collective responsibility for nation-building and unlock the potential and talents of individuals.

Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Centre for the Arabic Language, stated, "We see a great opportunity to achieve success and equality in promoting community culture in 2025, the Year of Community. In this regard, we must promote sustainable reading as a powerful tool for creating a cohesive society and sharing the community's understanding of the Arabic language with others."

He continued, "In the Year of Community, it is crucial to hold onto our traditions and take pride in them, while also adhering to our principles and keeping pace with the developments of our time."

Dr. Tamim further emphasised, "The main goals of the campaign include enhancing reading and comprehension skills, raising awareness of the importance of the Arabic language and its literature, and encouraging individuals across all age groups to make reading a daily habit."

"We are now entering a phase where the number of Arabic speakers is expected to significantly increase, with Arabic-speaking populations projected to reach 700 million people."

He also highlighted the strong support for artificial intelligence in the UAE, noting that the country offers many opportunities to support the Arabic language and spread it globally.

Saeed Al-Taniji, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Centre for the Arabic Language, remarked, "The goal is to enhance the practice of reading across different segments of society in a sustainable manner. Reading is the primary means of acquiring knowledge, developing skills and uplifting both individuals and society."

He added, "The event will feature 1,700 creative and interactive activities that align with the goals of 'Sustainable Reading', including 250 key initiatives and events."

"Additionally, 100 creatives will participate, with 50,000 people benefiting from the programme across schools, universities, government institutions, public spaces and more."

"The venues hosting the programme's events include the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2025 at ADNEC, cultural sites under the Department of Culture and Tourism, as well as educational institutions, schools, government entities and media organisations."
