Tadweer Group, the strategic partner for the Liwa Date Festival and Auction, is showcasing the group’s efforts in recycling and environmental education at the heritage event in Madinat Zayed, Al Dhafra.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, the event is running until October 20.
Fatima Al Harmoudi, Head of Community Engagement at Tadweer Group, spoke to Aletihad about the organisation's commitment to participating in the Liwa Date Festival and Auction.
"This year, our innovative stand features sculptures made from over 90 percent agricultural waste, including palm tree and bamboo byproducts. This initiative sends a message that every part of the palm tree can be utilised, whether for food, construction, or decor."
Al Harmoudi also mentioned that the group actively engages with the community, addressing inquiries about waste management and offering workshops on using palm waste for creative projects.
"We aim to empower individuals, especially women and children, to turn waste into entrepreneurial opportunities," she noted.
In addition, Dr. Hamel Al Hameli, Head of Special Projects Team, spoke to Aletihad about the Tadweer Group's strong commitment to sustainability as the official sponsor of the Liwa Date Festival and Auction.
Dr. Hamel stressed the importance of the festival, stating: “Our participation in the festival is a periodic participation. Every year, we participate in all festivals. The main goal is to know about the Tadweer Group. The role of Tadweer in society, in the environment, and in sustainability.”
He highlighted the importance of public engagement in environmental preservation and mentioned their initiative to install recyclable material recovery devices across Abu Dhabi to promote the 3Rs, reduce, reuse and recycle within the community.
He also discussed the significance of partnerships with major organisations like Masdar and Etihad Airways, focusing on innovative waste conversion opportunities, including waste-to-energy and biofuels.
With ambitious goals, the group aims to divert 80 percent of waste from landfills in Abu Dhabi by 2030.
They are developing a state-of-the-art materials recovery facility with an annual processing capacity of 1.3 million metric tonnes of waste, contributing significantly to their vision of achieving zero waste.
