Her first book, “A Squash and a Squeeze,” was published in 1993, illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
This collaboration led to the creation of many other beloved books, including “The Gruffalo,” “Room on the Broom,” and “Stick Man.”
Donaldson’s works are celebrated for their engaging narratives and rhythmic text, making them favourites among young readers and parents alike.
She served as the Children’s Laureate from 2011 to 2013 and has received numerous awards for her contributions to children’s literature.
Scheffler is an acclaimed illustrator known for his distinctive, whimsical style.
The German moved to the UK in 1982 to study Visual Communications at the Bath Academy of Art.
Scheffler’s partnership with Julia Donaldson began with “A Squash and a Squeeze” and has since produced many iconic children’s books.
Scheffler’s illustrations are characterised by their vibrant colours and expressive characters, bringing stories to life in a way that captivates both children and adults.
His work has been translated into numerous languages and has won several awards, solidifying his place as a leading figure in children’s book illustration.
The heartwarming story follows the adventures of Stick Man, who lives in the family tree with his Stick Lady Love and their three stick children.
The first book in the series was first published in 2008.
Stick Man’s life takes an unexpected turn when he is picked up by a playful dog who mistakes him for an ordinary stick.
