The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority is offering a series of Arabic calligraphy lectures and creative workshops as part of the "Arabic Calligraphy, Ornamentation, and Gilding" initiative under the umbrella of " Dubai Calligraphy Biennale."

The initiative aims to open new educational horizons for emerging talents by providing a quality platform that encourages them to develop and refine their skills in the field of Arabic calligraphy. The project also aims to enable participants to discover the wonders of this art, reflecting the organisation's commitment to preserving and promoting Arabic calligraphy as a vital part of national and Arab heritage.

Ongoing throughout February, the project targets all those interested in this art, including individuals aged 13 and above. Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children will host four specialised courses on weekends focusing on classical Arabic calligraphy. These courses will teach participants the techniques of mastering lettering, connecting letters, and creating compositions using various scripts.

Calligrapher Abdulrazzaq Al Mahmoud, in his course "Thuluth and Naskh Scripts," will delve into the fundamentals of these scripts and their aesthetic qualities. Calligrapher and artist Uday Al Araji will present a course on "Ejaza and Diwani Jali Scripts," while calligrapher Zaid Al A'adhami will shed light on the details of the Ruqʿah script. Mosab Aldouri will guide participants in the course "Ornamentation and Gilding," introducing them to the principles of ornamentation, colouring techniques, and the tools and types of paper used in this art.

The project will also feature eight dialogue sessions presented by A'adhami in various branches of Dubai Public Libraries. These sessions will highlight the history, philosophy, details, and techniques of Arabic calligraphy, exploring its impact on the arts and its role in cementing national identity in the hearts of the community members. Additionally, he will offer a series of interactive workshops for participants in the "Fazza International Championships 2024," held at the Dubai Center for People of Determination.
