Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists against distracted driving and stopping in the middle of the road.
In a social media post, the police shared footage of a car crashing into the back of a slow-moving pickup truck to highlight the dangers of distracted driving and stopping in the middle of the road.
Motorists who need to stop because of a vehicle malfunction or another emergency should, whenever possible, continue to the nearest exit or move to a safe location, the police said. This would help protect their safety and that of other road users.
If the vehicle cannot be moved, motorists should immediately contact the Command and Control Centre on 999 to request assistance.
The police also urged motorists to remain fully attentive, avoid distractions and be prepared to respond to traffic emergencies, saying vigilance helps drivers deal with unexpected situations and make the right decision at the right time.
