Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, stressed the importance of the media in the challenging circumstances facing the region, emphasising the need for credibility, balance and protection of the truth from distortion and polarisation.
Accurate and impartial reporting reflects the reality of the situation and protects the truth from distortion, he said on Thursday.
In a post in Arabic on X, Dr Gargash said: "Media is a key tool amidst the delicate circumstances the region is experiencing, and narrative plays a pivotal role in the dynamics of the conflict. Consequently, credibility and balance remain professional and ethical imperatives — though this requires avoiding naivety or equating parties that do not adhere to the same rules.
"What is needed is accurate, fair media that understands the context of the confrontation, shields the truth from disinformation and exploitation, and safeguards the public's awareness."
