Engine vibrations, oil leaks, and deteriorating batteries were among the most common issues identified in more than 20,000 vehicle inspections carried out across the UAE in the first half of 2026, according to data released by dubizzle Cars.
The findings come at a time when summer temperatures place additional strain on vehicle components, increasing the risk that minor mechanical issues develop into costly breakdowns if left untreated.
"Many of the problems we identify are entirely preventable if addressed early," Sherif Magdy, Sales Director at dubizzle Cars, said.
"A simple inspection can help motorists avoid unexpected breakdowns, reduce repair costs, and improve road safety."
The Ministry of Interior's three-month "Accident-Free Summer" campaign encourages drivers to carry out essential vehicle checks, including inspecting tyres, cooling systems, and lights.
Awareness messages are being shared across various social media platforms in Arabic, English, and Urdu to promote safe driving practices and reduce accidents.
Motorists are reminded to comply with speed limits, avoid overloading vehicles, refrain from leaving inflammable materials inside cars, maintain safe following distances, and ensure children are not left unattended inside parked cars.
According to dubizzle's data, 58% of inspected vehicles showed engine idling vibrations commonly associated with worn engine mounts, while 38% had idler pulley noise, which can indicate components nearing the end of their service life when exposed to prolonged summer temperatures.
The inspections also identified lubrication-related problems, with about 27% of vehicles showing signs of engine oil sweating, while 15% had active engine oil leaks.
"Although these issues may initially appear minor, untreated oil leaks can reduce engine efficiency and significantly increase the risk of mechanical failure under extreme heat," the report said.
Another 27% of inspected vehicles exhibited noisy engine belts, an early warning sign that components may require maintenance or replacement.
Most inspected vehicles recorded battery health between 40% and 60%, but around 14% had battery life below 30%, leaving them at greater risk of failure during the summer months.
Less common but potentially more serious problems identified include transmission oil leaks (16%) and engine misfires (7%), which can lead to reduced performance, increased fuel consumption, and more costly repairs if left unresolved.
Before hitting the roads, UAE authorities advise drivers to ensure tyres are in good condition and inflated to the correct pressure; check coolant levels and the engine cooling system; verify that lights and turn signals are functioning properly; and avoid exceeding permitted roof-load limits.
