ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
As part of the 'Summer Safely' campaign and the Ministry of Interior’s “Accident-Free Summer” campaign, the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) has urged drivers and community members to avoid leaving certain items inside vehicles during the summer season.
This is to protect public safety and prevent fire hazards that may result from high temperatures.
The police explained that many vehicle fires are linked to failure to follow safety and prevention measures.
They stressed the importance of not leaving six types of materials inside vehicles:
- Pressurised containers (aerosol cans)
- Batteries and energy storage devices
- Hand sanitisers
- Perfumes
- Gas cylinders
- Lighters
These items can be highly flammable or may explode when exposed directly to sunlight and extreme heat, potentially causing vehicle fires.
ADP also noted that vehicles contain several combustible materials, such as fuel, oils, and certain interior components made of plastic and rubber.
Therefore, it is essential to follow preventive measures to reduce risks.
The police emphasised the importance of carrying out regular vehicle maintenance through authorised technical service providers, ensuring that safety equipment is in good working condition, and keeping a fire extinguisher and a first-aid kit inside the vehicle.
These measures help enhance the safety of drivers and road users and reduce accidents during the summer season.
