ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Centre (ADCMC), in collaboration with the Department of Government Enablement, has launched a new cybersecurity awareness guide aimed at helping the public navigate digital risks during emergencies.
The "Cybersecurity Awareness Guide During Emergencies," released as part of the second phase of the "Our Community Is Prepared" campaign, sets out practical steps for individuals to protect their data, avoid online fraud and maintain safe digital behaviour when crises disrupt normal routines.
By bringing these topics together, the campaign seeks to make cybersecurity awareness a shared community responsibility rather than a technical issue limited to specialists.
"The guide presents the most prominent guidelines and preventive measures that must be followed to mitigate cyber risks during various hazards, contributing to enhancing community awareness, protecting individuals and institutions, and ensuring business continuity," ADCMC said in a statement on X.
The announcement comes as authorities warn that cyber threats tend to rise during emergencies, when fear, urgency, and heavy reliance on digital platforms make users more vulnerable to deception.
According to the guide, cyberattacks during crises often exploit fear and confusion to spread misinformation, or gain access to personal or financial information through fraud and impersonation.
The document introduces readers to the main types of cyber risks that may arise in such situations, including phishing attempts, account hacking, malware, identity impersonation and AI-enabled scams such as deepfakes. It also discusses warning signs of fraud, such as urgent requests for personal data, unfamiliar links, unexpected prize claims or messages written in unusual tones.
Special attention is given to protecting vulnerable groups, including children and older adults, by encouraging community members to support one another in identifying suspicious requests, messages and links.
The document is available in both Arabic and English, and can be downloaded via ADCMC's official website.
