SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)

On the occasion of World Health Day, Salama Al Ameemi, Director General of the Family Care Authority (FCA), called on families to give greater attention to both physical and emotional wellbeing, stressing that lasting improvements in health often begin with simple, consistent habits at home.

"World Health Day is a powerful reminder that small, consistent actions can have a lasting impact on our wellbeing. One of the simplest habits individuals can adopt is prioritising regular check-ins, both physical and emotional, within their families," she told Aletihad.

Al Ameemi added that open conversations and early attention to wellbeing can stop problems from becoming more serious and help build stronger and healthier family relationships.

She noted that this preventive approach  is increasingly shaping the UAE's approach to healthcare, with more attention being given to early support and community empowerment.

"In the UAE, preventive care is increasingly recognised as a cornerstone of a healthier society. By shifting focus from treatment to early support, we are empowering individuals and families to take an active role in their wellbeing."

Al Ameemi pointed out that the FCA has seen encouraging progress through community initiatives aimed at strengthening family stability, supporting mental health and improving access to services.

Looking ahead, she said the focus remains on encouraging practical and sustainable steps towards better health: "Building a healthier lifestyle does not require drastic change; rather, it begins with informed choices, strong family connections, and a shared commitment to wellbeing."
