Emiratis who have witnessed the positive impact of Nafis firsthand applauded the decision to expand the programme, saying the initiative ultimately builds and empowers a generation ready for the future.
Launched in 2021 with a five-year budget of Dh24 billion, Nafis set out to place 170,000 Emiratis in private-sector jobs, a target it surpassed ahead of schedule.
The initiative has so far supported the employment of more than 176,000 UAE nationals. Of these, 152,000 are active beneficiaries working across 32,000 establishments as of the end of March.
Building on this progress, the programme will now run until 2040, with updates designed to widen its reach and deepen its impact.
“Extending Nafis until 2040 reflects a clear and ambitious vision for the future,” said UAE national Fakhra Al Hosani.
She added that beyond creating jobs, the initiative instils hope and confidence among young Emiratis by opening up long-term career prospects, particularly in the private sector, where innovation and growth are picking up speed.
Another Emirati, Sheikha Al Dhaheri, agreed that Nafis goes beyond employment as it also focuses on skills development, entrepreneurship, and enabling nationals to play an active role in the country’s development.
“Nafis has already reshaped how the private sector engages with national talent,” UAE national Adnan Al Ajmi said, adding that the programme continues to demonstrate meaningful impact on workforce development.
“By extending it until 2040, the UAE will further strengthen its position as a model for sustainable economic development, enhance competitiveness, and attract investment,” Al Ajmi said.
