ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police has called on delivery motorcycle riders to refrain from operating and providing delivery services during unstable weather conditions.
The authority emphasized its commitment to enhancing awareness and early warnings to ensure the safety of delivery motorcycle riders, as part of the strategic priority of “Smart Road Safety.”
Brigadier Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, stressed the importance of avoiding motorcycle riding in unstable weather, especially during rainfall.
He noted that motorcycles are designed for dry road conditions and are therefore unsafe to operate in the rain, as this increases the risk of skidding and significantly extends braking distances to dangerous levels, often leading to accidents.
He also highlighted Abu Dhabi Police’s efforts to enhance the safety of this category of road users through continuous awareness workshops aimed at raising their traffic safety awareness. These initiatives are conducted in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, and Urdu, as part of the directorate’s plans to promote road safety awareness.
He urged delivery motorcycle riders to exercise safe driving practices after weather conditions improve, adhere to traffic laws and regulations to avoid serious injuries and fatalities, stay within designated lanes, avoid using mobile phones while driving, wear personal protective equipment, ensure proper lighting and regular maintenance of their motorcycles, avoid restricted areas, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles to enhance their safety and that of all road users.
