DUBAI (ALETIHAD)
Dubai Police has warned members of the community to stay vigilant amid a rise in scams offering fraudulent remote working opportunities.
Scammers use social media platforms to target individuals with fake job offers, promising quick earnings for completing simple tasks. To avail of the opportunities, victims are asked to pay registration or account activation fees, transfer a sum of money, or even share sensitive personal and banking details.
In some case, scammers have even used victims' bank accounts for illegal activities, exposing them to potential legal consequences.
As part of the 'Beware of Fraud' campaign, Dubai Police stressed that employers in the UAE are not permitted to charge recruitment fees, and urged residents to verify the legitimacy of all job opportunities.
People should therefore refrain from sharing personal and banking information with unknown and unverified parties, and ensure that they do not pay 'recruitment fees' in exchange for employment.
Dubai Police also called on the public to report any suspicious job offers through the eCrime platform, or by calling 901 for non-urgent concerns. The police reaffirmed that awareness and vigilance remain the first line of defence against online fraud, and stressed the importance of community vigilance in maintaining public safety and security.
