It’s honey season in Abu Dhabi: beekeepers have begun extracting premium Emirati honey from their hives.
On Monday, the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) marked the start of the honey extraction season with a 56-second video that offered a behind-the-scenes look at the meticulous process behind the prized product.
“The honey is meant to be pure and truly Emirati,” the narration explained، as the process unfolded in a montage, step by step.
It begins with the careful sorting and cutting of hexagonal honeycombs, which are then placed into an extractor. Using centrifugal force, the machine gently draws out the golden honey, allowing it to flow freely before it is sorted and prepared for bottling.
“Once the honey reaches our specialised processing facilities, we filter it a second and third time, then package it, ensuring the product reaches consumers with the highest quality standards, “ one of the beekeepers said.
Every stage is designed to preserve purity and authenticity.
Beekeepers expressed their appreciation to DMT and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) for providing designated sites that support local honey production.
According to DMT, its partnership with ADAFSA has helped “transform government woodlands into a sustainable environment for premium Emirati honey, strengthening food security while promoting ecosystem health”.
“Today, this honey has earned global recognition,” a beekeeper said.
