NEW YORK (ALETIHAD)

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has lauded the UAE for its $5 million contribution to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).

In post on X, OCHA said: "We thank the UAE  for your generous support to UN Global Emergency Fund CERF – helping uphold a 20-year promise of fast, fair and life-saving humanitarian action."

"Together, we continue to invest in humanity and strengthen UNCERF for the crises of today and tomorrow."
At a UN meeting in New York, the UAE announced the contribution as part of its $550 million allocation to the Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO).

The pledge underscores the country’s “commitment to advancing international efforts to save lives and respond to crises affecting the world’s most vulnerable populations,” Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, said during the high-level event.

In a post on X, the UAE Mission to the UN highlighted that the nation’s contribution comes at a time when humanitarian crises are growing in scale and complexity.
“The UAE continues to be a consistent partner in ensuring that the UN Central Emergency Response Fund remains strong, predictable, and capable of meeting the demands of our rapidly changing world—including by harnessing digital innovations,” it said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the UAE announced a substantial pledge of $550 million to support the GHO, which aims to raise $33 billion in 2026 to support approximately 135 million people across 23 humanitarian operations worldwide.
