Thousands of school children from across the UAE took part in Tadweer Group’s second Eid Al Etihad campaign, held recently to promote awareness and sustainable behaviour on campuses.
The campaign featured a series of interactive activities and educational sessions led by the Communications and Awareness team with a focus on waste management.
Speaking to Aletihad, Ollie Lawson, Director of Communications and Awareness at Tadweer Group, a leader in waste management, said that this year, the programme grew in scale and diversity, reaching 13 schools, including a Spanish-speaking school and a school for children of determination, reflecting a deeper commitment to inclusivity, multilingual engagement, and meaningful participation for students of all abilities.
The campaign involved 13 schools, 8,200 students, 190 staff members, 170 hours of programming, 91 activities, at least 10 nationalities, and 11 influencers contributing to outreach.
“Through interactive educational workshops and fun, students learn correct waste management practices,” Lawson said.
A key focus of the campaign was the four key principles: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recover. “The aim is to help students turn awareness into daily practice, both at school and at home,” Lawson explained.
He stressed that teaching the 4Rs early is vital as children shape long-term environmental behaviour in their families and communities.
“Promoting the 4Rs strengthens national efforts to reduce waste and divert materials from landfills. Early education embeds sustainability as a natural part of daily life and future decision-making; this is core to our ambitions at Tadweer Group. We believe by showing children that waste is a valuable resource from a young age, they will be able to carry this practice into their daily routines.”
Lawson also noted that National Day provided a meaningful backdrop for the initiative.
“National Day is a powerful moment to highlight the link between sustainability, national pride, and shared responsibility. The UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was a strong advocate for environmental conservation and promoted this thinking among the people. We carry these values in our campaign in celebration of the UAE’s 54th birthday.”
