The rapid advancement of AI and technology in healthcare is creating significant opportunities to improve patient outcomes. Nurses are at the forefront of this transformation, and by upskilling them, they gain the necessary tools to harness technology in enhancing patient care, experts said as the second Annual Nursing Conference opened in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Organised by the Clinical and Nursing Institute of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the two-day conference is held under the theme ‘The SMART Nurse: Integrating Technology with Clinical Expertise: Shaping the Future of Patient Care’.
The conference aims to prepare nurses for the future of the profession in an era defined by innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence, said Elizabeth Govero, Chief Clinical and Nursing Officer at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Amid the technological shifts in the industry, it is still nurses’ “clinical judgment, empathy, and hands-on experience that breathe life into these innovations”, Govero said in a welcome message.
“Nursing is going to be of utmost importance as we continue to guide patient care,” she told Aletihad.
At the event, discussions covered key topics such as AI in clinical decision-making, virtual nursing, remote monitoring, digital ethics, simulation, and VR, and the use of avatars in clinical education.
“We will have to see how the year unfolds with AI and technology, but I think it will continue to revolve around that, alongside change management — which will be one of the biggest needs as we transition into the next realm of innovation,” Govero said.
At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, advanced technologies are poised to redefine nursing care and the team is looking forward to seeing these innovations in action.
“We are excited to pilot new technologies, especially in virtual nursing, and see how they enhance patient safety and help bedside nurses be more proficient,” said Tracy McTigue, Nurse Manager for Acute Care at the institute.
Experts and industry leaders have gathered at the conference to shed light on how technology can “enhance nurses’ clinical capabilities, streamline workflows, and empower patients”, Govero said.
The focus is on technological innovation and adoption, McTigue added. “This conference is about learning, growing, and sharing best practices, and we’re proud to drive nursing excellence as part of our ethos.”
