Physicians from leading international institutions are set to offer consultations and treatment services in Abu Dhabi this November, covering specialties including oncology, thoracic health, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, and eye care.

The doctors are coming to the emirate as part of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi’s (DoH)’s Visiting Physicians Programme, which aims to provide world-class medical care close to home. They will be available across a range of healthcare institutions during the month, and patients can contact the institutions directly to book appointments.

Dr Denise Adams, paediatric haematologist-oncologist and director of the Comprehensive Vascular Anomalies Programme at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, is among the November cohort of visiting consultants. She is seeing patients at the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) until Wednesday, November 12. Dr Adams is an expert in the treatment of rare tumours and vascular malformations among children.

Dr Patrick Cahill, director of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Centre of Thoracic Insufficiency Syndrome, will be available at the Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City until Thursday, November 13. Dr Cahill has over a decade of experience in orthopaedic spine surgery and in the treatment of spinal fractures and scoliosis.

Accomplished ocularist Paul Geelen, who is based at the Artificial Eye Services Hospital in Perth, Australia, will be available for consultation at Abu Dhabi’s Moorfields Eye Hospital from November 16 to 30. Geelen boasts over 25 years of expertise in the making and fitting of hand-crafted artificial eyes.

Prof Munjed Al Muderis, consultant orthopaedic surgeon at St Mary Hospital, Paley Institute in West Palm Beach, US, will see patients at Burjeel Medical City between November 22 and 24. Prof Al Muderis is an expert in the care of diabetic feet, amputated limbs, reconstructed limbs, bone tumours, knees and ligaments, and conditions that require limb lengthening and long-term management.

Prof Oliver Verborgt, head of orthopaedics at AZ Monica Hospital in Belgium, will be available for consultation and treatment at the Tarmeem Orthopaedic and Spine Specialty Hospital between November 24 and 25. Prof Verborgt specialises in shoulder surgery, and in the management of sports-related injuries.

Earlier in the month, Dr David Kulber, director of the Plastic Surgery Centre and Hand Surgery Programme at Cedars-Sinai, US, saw patients seeking care in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.

Launched in 2021, the DoH Visiting Physicians Programme not only ensures the provision of exceptional health services in Abu Dhabi but also boosts knowledge-sharing and enhances local capabilities.
