DUBAI (ALETIHAD)

In an inspiring story that embodies determination and perseverance, sisters Sarah Abdullah (19) and Warda Abdullah (17) have flourished from volunteers to global podium finishers in para taekwondo, receiving direct support from the ‘Positive Spirit’ initiative at Dubai Police.

Their journey began in 2018 when they engaged in volunteer activities for community events and initiatives organised by the Positive Spirit Council.

They actively participated in Flag Day and national events at Dubai Police, ultimately being selected as ‘Safety Ambassadors’ in the Dubai Police Safety Ambassadors Council.

Their journey reached a remarkable milestone with their participation in the inaugural World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, held in Bahrain in 2024.

Warda claimed second place and took home a silver medal, while Sarah secured third place and received a bronze medal, marking a significant achievement for the UAE in this sport.

In addition, they triumphed in the first Arab Para Taekwondo Championship and actively competed in the UAE Open Championship for three consecutive seasons.

Talent Attraction

Chairperson of the Positive Spirit Council at Dubai Police, Ms Fatima Buhajeer, highlighted that the ‘Positive Spirit’ aims to strengthen communication between Dubai Police and various community segments through a sports-oriented and educational framework.

“It also seeks to promote values of tolerance and unity, reflecting the cultural and intellectual diversity of Dubai’s communities,” she added.

She further stated, "The Positive Spirit has achieved remarkable results in the community, effectively raising awareness among different groups and neighbourhoods regarding security, traffic, and criminal-related services, as well as compliance with laws and communication channels. Furthermore, it has enhanced awareness of government initiatives in sports, community engagement, and volunteer work, while attracting and nurturing talent. This is exemplified by sisters Sarah and Warda Abdullah, who volunteered with the Positive Spirit in various initiatives, events, and programs. We discovered their talent in para taekwondo, which marked the beginning of their journey toward competitions and podiums."
