Nutrition labels — packed with numbers and fine print — can be overwhelming. The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (ADQCC) is simplifying them through a new TAMM feature.
Now, consumers can scan food labels with their phones to check products’ nutrition rating anytime, anywhere.
“NutriMark is designed to make the healthy choice easier,” said Abdullah Hassan Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory Services Sector at ADQCC, in an interview with Aletihad.
The tool translates complex nutritional information on food packs into a simple colour-coded score — A, B, C, D, E, and the colours from green to red. Developed with the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre, the tool rates fats, sugars, fibre, protein, among others.
“This will help the consumer understand how healthy the products are. It will also allow them to compare products of similar type with each other. We’re basically encouraging the consumer to go for the green rather than the red, which is A and B rather than D and E,” Al Muaini said.
The launch of the NutriMark platform aligns with the capital’s wider digital government vision, he said.
“The emirate is building a smart, connected, and citizen-centric government. The integration of NutriMark into the TAMM platform is a clear example of Abu Dhabi’s leadership in doing that.”
Al Muaini also highlighted the programme’s role in boosting public health.
“By helping residents adopt healthier diets today, it will reduce the future burden of lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity and diabetes, which are key global public health challenges … It will help build a community that values health, wellbeing, and informed choices,” he said.
