SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)

Emirati women are making significant contributions to the UAE’s banking and investment sectors, playing a vital role in shaping their future, according to industry leaders.

Humaida Al Khalsan, Head of Corporate Affairs & Marketing at Invest Bank, noted how far UAE women have come. “Emirati women are a driving force in the UAE banking sector, representing the highest proportion of nationals across all industries. As of 2025, they hold 14.8% of board seats in the UAE, leading the GCC in gender diversity, taking on top leadership roles, and spearheading digital transformation efforts,” she said.

With the rise of fintech, AI, blockchain and digital banking, career opportunities have dramatically transformed for Emirati women and they have kept pace with these changes, Al Khalsan said. “Strategic partnerships are also vital for expanding opportunities, not only within the country but also in establishing Emirati women as global leaders.”

At ADIB, women form 72% of the Emirati workforce — “and they play a vital role in shaping the future of banking and investment”, said Bushra Al Shehhi, Group Chief HR Officer at ADIB.

She highlighted mentorship, training, and leadership as key to progress. “When organisations create an environment that values diversity and provides the right pathways for advancement, women are able to thrive and deliver meaningful impact.”

Sharing some advice for the youth, she said: “Invest in your growth and remain committed to learning. Confidence, resilience, and a commitment to excellence are key to building a successful career.”

For Noor Abdulla Alseiari, Compliance Officer at Reem Finance, Emirati Women’s Day carries deep meaning.

“It is a proud reminder of our nation’s commitment to empowering women and of Emirati women’s achievements and contributions. It is a motivation that drives us to keep on giving and contributing meaningfully to our country.”

Dr. Saeeda Jaffar, Senior Vice President and Group Country Manager GCC at Visa, was recently named among the 100 Most Powerful Businesswomen by Forbes Middle East. For her, this recognition ties directly to responsibility.

“Emirati Women’s Day is about celebrating the vision, resilience, and leadership of Emirati women across generations. Being named among the region’s most powerful women in 2025 on this day is not just an honour—it is also a responsibility… Leading by example and the higher expectations that come with it are a privilege,” Jaffar said.

She added:  “My path has been shaped by remarkable Emirati women whose achievements paved the way for my generation and the ones to follow.”

At Visa, she champions initiatives such as She’s Next, which supports women entrepreneurs across the GCC.

“Visionary leadership begins with clarity of purpose… The most impactful leaders I have worked with invest in others, build trust, and recognise that mentorship is a two-way street,” she said.

She hopes to leave a legacy: “I want the next generation to inherit an ecosystem where opportunities are abundant and women can lead with confidence and purpose.”

For Hana Al Rostamani, Group Chief Executive Officer of First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Emirati Women’s Day is rooted in the nation’s founding vision.

“On the occasion of the Emirati Women Day, we honour a vision first established by our late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who recognised women as essential partners in the nation’s journey. Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak … has carried this legacy forward by driving initiatives that have empowered women, elevated their roles, and strengthened their meaningful contributions.”

The broader economic and industrial impact of Emirati women is also evident at ADIO.

“Emirati Women’s Day is a moment to recognise the decisive role Emirati women play in shaping the UAE’s economy and future,” said Nadia Rashed, Head of Industrial Partnerships and Outreach at ADIO.

“The trust and responsibility placed in Emirati women ensure that we are not only part of the journey, but also leading it, driving competitiveness, advancing innovation, and inspiring the next generation to aim higher.”

Mashreq is another bank that remains committed to creating an environment where women can thrive, progress, and lead, said Hamda Al Shamali, Chief People & Intellectual Capital Officer.

“In the workplace, Emirati women continue to shape industries, inspire innovation, and strengthen organisational culture. Their impact is evident not only in leadership roles but across the entire talent spectrum, where they contribute skills, perspectives, and dedication that elevate the performance of teams and institutions alike,” she said.

“On Emirati Women’s Day, we honour their journey, celebrate their contributions, and look ahead to a future where their influence continues to grow across every sector of our nation."
