SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)

For UAE doctors, nurses and professionals in the healthcare sector, Emirati Women’s Day is not only a day of pride, honour, and gratitude but a reminder of purpose and service.

“Being Emirati means carrying a legacy of glory and ambition and bearing the responsibility of contributing to a future worthy of our nation,” said Dr. Nadya Al Matrooshi, staff physician in Cardiovascular Medicine at  Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

“I channel this responsibility into advancing patient care and medical innovation, guided by excellence and compassion.”

Nawal Al Sheryani, staff nurse at the same hospital, said she is proud to be among the women serving on the frontlines of healthcare.

“Every day, I see the reflection of my community, my family, and my country’s promise… Emirati women are making a real impact in patient care, bringing strength, empathy, and innovation to [the industry],” she said.

From the field of neurology, Dr. Najwa Al Bustani stressed the importance of empathy and collective leadership: “As we celebrate 50 years of progress, I stand with my fellow Emirati women, caring for one another, inspiring the next generation, and building a future defined by shared strength and vision.”

“To young women in medicine: lead with empathy and know that your contribution is vital to the future of care, one patient at a time,” she added.

Shamsa Al Muhairi, Director of the Emirati Women Chapter and Special Projects at PureHealth, shared her personal journey of leadership development.

“With the UAE’s steadfast support for women, I was able to pursue higher education… These milestones led me to advanced leadership programmes at world-renowned institutions, where I gained expertise that enabled me to align strategic plans with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 and lead future-focused initiatives, resulting in more than 12 innovative healthcare projects.”

Mariam Alblooshi, medical laboratory technologist at Abu Dhabi Biobank, highlighted Emirati women’s role in advancing stem cell science.

“In stem cell research, we bring not just scientific skill, but also a deep cultural understanding of the value of life and health. We are showing the world that Emirati women are not just participants in science—we are leading its future.”
