ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Yas Clinic – Khalifa City, announced on Thursday the launching of its advanced robotic spine surgery programme, powered by an intelligent AI-driven medical navigation system. This groundbreaking development represents a transformative leap in precision medicine and patient care.

Dr Maysoon Al Karam, Chief Medical Officer at Yas Clinic – Khalifa City, said: "Robotic surgery is no longer the future of medicine – it's our advanced reality today. This technology allows us to achieve unprecedented levels of precision while reducing risks and improving patient outcomes, even in the most complex cases."

The system enables surgeons to control the robot through an intelligent console, while the medical navigation system provides precise guidance for surgical instruments within the patient's body. This ensures minimal invasive intervention, reduced complications, and accelerated recovery times.

Professor Amr El-Shawarbi, Consultant Neurosurgeon specialising in robotic surgery, said: "We're witnessing a significant rise in brain and spine surgery. The exceptional precision this system provides gives our patients higher chances of recovery with greater safety."

The launch of these surgical procedures is part of Yas Clinic's comprehensive vision to integrate the latest medical technologies into its advanced services, spanning neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and general surgery. The medical team has undergone intensive international training to ensure the application of the highest global standards.

The clinic has so far completed two complex spinal surgeries on patients in their fifties and sixties who were suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis and disc herniation. These conditions were causing nerve compression, leg pain, and difficulty walking for extended periods.

Initial surgical results have demonstrated a remarkable improvement in surgical intervention accuracy, reduced hospital stay duration, decreased pain levels and scarring, and accelerated patients' return to normal lifestyle.

The hospital plans to expand the programme to include additional specialities in the near future while continuing to invest in medical staff training and embracing innovation at every step. Through this initiative, Yas Clinic solidifies its position as a leading medical destination for advanced surgery in Abu Dhabi and the region.
