His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Adviser, said that the forty-nine years ago, the United Arab Emirates undertook a historic and strategic decision to unify its Armed Forces—an initiative rooted in the Founding Leaders’ conviction that true national security can only be ensured through a unified, cohesive, and highly capable military establishment.
In a statement marking the 49th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces, H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed noted that the UAE Founding Fathers firmly believed that development was impossible without security.
“Their visionary foresight laid the foundation for the comprehensive development we witness today, protected and defended by a professional army whose competence has been acknowledged by leading military figures worldwide," H.H. said.
“Today, we reap the fruits of the wisdom of the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and his fellow Founding Leaders, the rulers of the Emirates, may God have mercy on them. The progress our Armed Forces have made in terms of human resources, weaponry, and field efficiency has drawn global attention. The UAE has made rapid and qualitative advances in developing its military capabilities and readiness, equipping it with the latest technology and artificial intelligence, in addition to enhancing its capabilities in the defence and military industries," H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed added.
H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed added that the status and professional reputation achieved by the UAE Armed Forces are the result of continuous strategic planning and tireless efforts, guided by the wise vision and unlimited support of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
“His Highness the President has devoted great attention to the development and modernisation of our Armed Forces, ensuring they are equipped with the best modern equipment and technologies to achieve the highest levels of combat efficiency, readiness, and preparedness. Today, under his leadership, our military enjoys advanced capabilities in armament, training, and empowerment, and has gained international respect and trust, bolstered by its prominent presence in international peacekeeping forces.”
The UAE, H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed continued, has also taken significant steps to enhance its defence and security industries and to intensify investment in this sector.
"The wise leadership believes that strengthening the pillars of the Union and advancing its journey begins with a strong military force—one made up of highly qualified personnel, equipped with the latest military technology, and supported by advanced defence manufacturing. This ensures that our Armed Forces can fully carry out their role in protecting our national achievements and safeguarding our development journey."
“On this day, we salute the members of our Armed Forces in all their positions—commanders, officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers—and we value their great efforts and tireless perseverance, through which they have presented a bright image of the people of the UAE, their noble personality, and their ability to undertake any mission with distinction and skill, affirming that our Armed Forces are truly a forge of men.”
On this glorious day, H.H. added, "We also remember our righteous martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the elevation and progress of our nation, and who fulfilled their duty with utmost sincerity. We extend to them our deepest respect and admiration. The UAE, its leadership, and its people will never forget the sacrifices of its martyrs. Their sacrifices will remain a guiding light for future generations, teaching them the love of the homeland and the importance of defending it.
"We also send greetings to the families of the martyrs and deeply value the noble sacrifices of their beloved ones in service of the nation. Their heroism has been recorded in golden letters in the pages of history, and every Emirati will remember their bravery and courage with pride and honour.
“We renew our confidence in our Armed Forces, and we are fully assured that with the wisdom of its leadership and the dedication of its sons and daughters, the UAE will achieve glory, elevate its global role in promoting peace.”
Concluding, H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed extended highest congratulations to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Their Highnesses, members of the Federal Supreme Council, the Rulers of the Emirates, praying to Allah Almighty to guide their steps, protect the UAE and its people, and grant the nation continued stability, security, progress, and prosperity.
