Under the patronage of Sheikha Salama bint Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairperson of the AlLiwan Foundation for Culture and Heritage, and Honorary President of the Abilities Development Centre for People of Determination, the centre organised the 15th Sports Championship for People of Determination, under the theme “The Challenge kickoff”, at Al Jazira Sports Club in Abu Dhabi.

The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Centre’s Board of Directors, a number of parents, representatives from participating public schools, and several prominent businesswomen from across the UAE.

Dr. Samira Salem Hirzallah, Director and Founder of the Abilities Development Centre, highlighted the UAE’s outstanding efforts in supporting and empowering people of determination. She praised the country’s humanitarian approach and the forward-looking vision of its wise leadership.

Dr. Hirzallah emphasised that the tournament aims to promote social responsibility by supporting People of Determination across various sectors, particularly in sports, to help them unlock their full potential. She also encouraged parents to accompany their children to such events, underscoring the value these experiences hold for them.

Dr. Mohamed Fouda, the centre’s psychologist and educational supervisor, noted that the tournament is part of the centre’s 17-year-long awareness campaign.

He explained that the event included participants with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, and down syndrome, due to the positive social, psychological, and behavioural impact of such activities. Dr. Fouda stressed the need for broader awareness to help this segment of society develop their talents and creativity.

Students from Ashbal Al-Quds School performed a sports show that showcased their abilities and their enthusiasm for social inclusion. Additional performances were held by other schools.

During the event, sponsoring companies, individuals, and institutions were honoured for their contributions.

The tournament welcomed 450 students from public and private schools as fans and supporters. A total of 37 centres and schools for people of determination from across the UAE participated in the sports competitions, with 400 male and female students taking part.

Competitions were held for various age groups, from 6 to 17 years and above, and included relay races, zigzag running, basketball, ball transfer, and shooting events. Excitement and enthusiasm among the students peaked as the results were announced.

At the conclusion of the tournament, winning teams were honored:
• First Place: Abilities Development Center
• Second Place: Al Manara Mohammed bin Zayed School
• Third Place: Al Noor Centre for Rehabilitation of People of Determination
