As part of its ongoing “A Conscious Society, Free of Beggars” campaign during Ramadan, Dubai Police has apprehended 10 illegal street vendors selling food products in public areas, violating public health and safety regulations.
The vendors were found operating without proper licences or adherence to health standards, posing potential risks to the community.
Commitment to Public Safety and Clean Urban Spaces
Colonel Ahmad Al Adeedi, Deputy Director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, stated that the crackdown on illegal vendors is part of Dubai Police’s efforts to uphold public safety and security in collaboration with partner authorities.
He highlighted that such activities breach safety regulations and tarnish the city’s visual appeal by creating unregulated makeshift markets in public streets and alleys.
“These unauthorised vendors tend to operate near labour accommodation areas, where they attract customers by offering food products under unhygienic conditions,” Colonel Al Adeedi warned.
He urged the public to avoid purchasing goods from unlicensed street vendors or unregulated vehicles selling food products in public spaces and instead rely on authorised businesses to ensure food quality and safety.
Health Risks of Unlicensed Vendors
Major Talib Al Amiri, Head of the Street Vendors Control Section, reiterated the serious health risks of consuming food from unregulated vendors and unlicensed vehicles. He emphasised that such products are often stored and displayed under unsafe conditions, leading to spoilage and potential foodborne illnesses.
He further stated that Dubai Police will continue its intensified patrols around the clock, working closely with partner entities to identify and apprehend violators.
Public Urged to Report Violations
Dubai Police has urged residents to report any illegal street vending activities through 901 Call Centre or the ‘Police Eye’ service on the Dubai Police App.
