Emirati Day for Education, observed annually on February 28, highlights the UAE’s significant progress in the field of learning, according to members of the academia.

The Education, Human Development and Community Development Council (EHCD) has called on institutions, families and all members of society to actively participate in the festivities as the initiative aims to collectively highlight the fundamental values and principles of education as a powerful catalyst for development, progress and success at the individual, community and national levels, Emirates News Agency, WAM, reported.

The occasion is aligned with the spirit of “The Year of the Community” and its theme “Hand in Hand”, embodying the values of unity and collaboration, bringing together all members of society to achieve shared goals of progress, development and sustainable growth.

Ranking top on innovation and education indexes, the UAE is among the leading countries in integrating innovation and technology into education.

The government supports innovative educational initiatives such as digital learning, remote education, and the use of artificial intelligence in education, all of which continuously improve the educational environment.

Dr. Akhmed Khaleel, Assistant Professor - Applied Media Faculty of Applied Media, said the UAE Education Day has become an important marker in the nation’s progressive march, highlighting the country’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence.

“The occasion not only serves as a reflection of past accomplishments but also sets the stage for the next phase of development.” Dr. Khaleel said.

“It represents the UAE’s ability to blend modern technology with traditional values, creating a balanced approach to education for students while keeping them grounded in their heritage,” he said.

The UAE’s dedication to developing a highly qualified teaching workforce is further demonstrated by the Emirati Day of Education 2025’s emphasis on professional development, he noted.

“To ensure that they are prepared to meet the demands of the constantly shifting educational landscape, teachers are encouraged to undergo ongoing professional development. As a teacher, this ongoing professional development helps me hone my methods and maintain my motivation to provide my pupils with the most up-to-date and successful learning opportunities,” Dr. Khaleel added.

Dr. Naama Althani, Lecturer at the Faculty of Applied Media at Higher Colleges of Technology, said over the years, education in the UAE has seen a significant transition. “From the first public school that opened its doors in 1953 until the present, we have seen the growth of a strong and progressive educational system,” she said.

“Today, education encompasses a wide range of subjects, including science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, whereas in the past it was concentrated on basic literacy and numeracy.

“The nation’s push towards digital education, particularly in recent years, has greatly improved accessibility to quality learning through advanced infrastructure like smart classrooms, e-learning platforms, and virtual labs,” Althani said.
