SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)

AI Everything Global, organised by Dubai World Trade Centre and GITEX GLOBAL, is taking place on February 4 at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in Abu Dhabi and in Dubai on February 5 and 6 this week.

The event which highlights AI advancements and trends features participation from 70+ countries, 200 presenters, 150+ investors and 500+ AI chiefs and technology executives.

The platform focuses on the impact of AI on healthcare, education, energy, Industry 4.0 and creative economies.

At the opening ceremony of the summit, Faisal Al Bannai, Adviser to the UAE President & Secretary General of the Advanced Technology Research Council, reiterated the UAE's commitment to becoming a global leader in AI.

He stated: "The true spirit of the UAE and the true spirit of Abu Dhabi, we are really harnessing the maximum potential of what can be done in an extremely balanced way. So, we are partnering with the best companies globally, whether it comes from infrastructure or hardware or chips or others. We are partnering with the best solution providers globally to ensure we can become the ultimate destination where true AI technology gets tested, gets validated, gets rolled out, and scaled where it really makes an impact."

The UAE's approach to AI, combining global alliances with local innovation, has resulted in a dynamic ecosystem that endorses collaboration, growth and global impact, he said.

Speaking to Aletihad on the sidelines of the summit, Alok Sama, President & CFO at SoftBank Group International, said the trend of applications and agentification is expected to drive growth in the UAE and globally.

"I think it is a huge productivity tool for businesses. Most businesses will see improvements in margins if they deploy AI for productivity, with a potential 20-30% improvement in margins," he added.

According to Sama, the role of artificial intelligence in the UAE over the next five to 10 years will focus on two major trends: "I think the two big trends are agentification and physical AI. Now, what do I mean by that? By agentification, so far, when we use Perplexity or ChatGPT, we are usually using it to answer questions. Agentification means you will be using AI to actually do things for you, to perform actions for you. This could be at the enterprise level or at the individual level."

AI is an important productivity tool for both businesses and individuals, boosting competitiveness and efficiency, he noted.

Walid Yahya, Managing Director, Gulf at Dell Technologies, spoke to Aletihad about the impact of AI on education.

He said: "Education will benefit from AI. AI will help expand the horizons and knowledge of humans. It will bring new methods of learning and make education more personalised, like in other industries. This personalisation with AI will be more effective and informative. However, it also requires us to look at education in a different way. Also, we need to consider the psychological traits of the new generation that will interact with AI."

Pivoting to sustainability, Yahya said Dell is working on development of environmentally friendly, power-efficient recycling technologies.

On the subject of cybersecurity, he emphasised the "zero trust" concept, which is a security strategy designed and implemented using the following set of security principles: Verify explicitly, use least privilege access, and assume breach.

Over the next decade, AI will become more of a decision-maker, acting as an agent, and new jobs will be created, Yahya predicted.

"Just like any other industrial revolution, some jobs were eliminated, but more jobs have been created, and that is the nature of our civilisation," concluded Yahya.
