Indian missions in the UAE celebrated Republic Day on Sunday with flag-hoisting ceremonies and a variety of cultural activities. Members of the Indian community participated in large numbers.

India commemorates January 26 every year as Republic Day, marking the day the Indian Constitution came into effect in 1950.

Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Sunjay Sudhir, unfurled the Indian national flag at the embassy premises in Abu Dhabi.

Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador emphasised the Indian government's commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of Indians living abroad. He also highlighted the transformative nature of UAE-India relations in recent years.

In a tweet, the Ambassador stated that Republic Day reflects devotion to the principles of the Constitution and embodies the nation's pursuit of a progressive and inclusive society.

The Ambassador felicitated the top scorers from the UAE in the 'Bharat ko Janiye' (Know India) quiz on the occasion. He commended their achievement and encouraged them to continue strengthening their connect with India.

On Saturday, the Ambassador inaugurated a three-day cultural festival at the India Social and Cultural Centre, Abu Dhabi, to celebrate Republic Day. The festival features numerous activities showcasing the vibrant culture of India.

In Dubai, Consul General Satish Sivan unfurled the Indian flag at the Indian Consulate in the presence of a large number of community members.

Later, Sivan joined the celebrations at the labour accommodation of Oasis Investment Al Shirawi Contracting. Free medical check-ups and awareness sessions on financial literacy and labour issues were organised for the benefit of the workers.

The Indian community also organised celebrations in Sharjah, Fujairah, and other Northern Emirates, with active participation from Indian Consulate officials.

To mark the occasion, the Indian community also organised blood donation camps at DHA headquarters in Al Jadaf, Dubai, and UAQ Hospital.
