The UAE's Nafis programme, launched to boost private sector employment of Emirati nationals, is reaping rich dividends in enhancing Emirati skills and securing positions for young citizens in diverse sectors.

According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, a total of 131,833 Emiratis were employed in the private sector in the UAE by January 1, 2025.

Speaking to Aletihad, many Emirati employees shared their success stories, which reflect the extent to which they benefited from the programme, and the diversity of their professional achievements in various sectors.

Zayed Al Hajri, an employee at Aims Human Resources Department, said: "I have greatly benefited from the Nafis programme, which has made a difference in my professional career. Through Nafis, I have received special discounts on my Etisalat card, in addition to an additional monthly bonus on my salary, which has contributed to improving my financial situation."

Al Hajri said the programme offered him the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds.

"Attending work meetings also enabled me to share my ideas and support my colleagues, which increased my sense of accomplishment and positive impact. In addition, Nafis was a great motivation for me to complete my studies, which made me more committed to achieving my academic goals," he added.

Hamdan Al Ameri, a data entry employee at SFC Group, said that the Nafis programme opened pathways for professional growth for him.

"The Nafis programme opened up many opportunities for me to develop my skills, whether through training or through financial support, such as salary and retirement contributions, which enhances our professional stability," he said.

"The private sector in the UAE is an environment full of opportunities that allow Emirati youth to grow and innovate and help in the prosperity of the country. Through Nafis, I gained many skills and experiences that positively impacted my professional life."

As for Hamdan Fahad, an employee at Gulf Sail Company, the "Nafis" program was a "turning point" in his professional career.

"Through specialised training and continuous support, I was able to develop my skills and increase my ability to deal with challenges in the labor market," he said.

"I benefited greatly from the opportunities the program provided me, whether through workshops or career guidance, which helped me get a job that matches my ambitions and enhances my professional future," he added.

Fahad pointed out that the Nafis programme is not limited to being a mere training programme, but rather "a real partner" in developing the skills of Emirati youth.
