ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

President Bernardo Arévalo of Guatemala has awarded Ahmed Hatem Al Menhali, former non-resident Ambassador of the UAE to Guatemala and current UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, the prestigious "Order of Antonio José de Irisarri" with the rank of "Grand Officer."

The honour recognises Ambassador Al Menhali's exceptional efforts in strengthening bilateral relations between Guatemala and the UAE during his tenure, as well as his active contributions to fostering cooperation between the two nations.

Jorge Rafael Ruiz, Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala to the UAE, presented the award to Al Menhali in an official ceremony at the Embassy of Guatemala in the UAE.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Ruiz congratulated Al Menhali on receiving the distinguished honour and commended Al Menhali's role in enhancing collaboration and expanding the scope of relations between the UAE and Guatemala. He noted that the award, one of Guatemala's highest distinctions, is reserved for heads of state and influential international figures who have made impactful contributions to the country's relations.

Ambassador Al Menhali expressed his gratitude to President Arévalo for the prestigious recognition, emphasising that it symbolises the strong and enduring ties between the UAE and Guatemala. He also extended his appreciation to the Guatemalan government for the cooperation and support he received during his tenure.

Ambassador Al Menhali is the first non-resident ambassador to Guatemala to receive the "Order of Antonio José de Irisarri" with the rank of "Grand Officer".
