TRENDS Research & Advisory has released a research study highlighting the increasing challenges in the field of cybersecurity, warning of the growing frequency and complexity of cyberattacks that threaten individuals, businesses, and governments alike.
The study, "Cybersecurity in a World in Crisis: Funding Challenges, Investment Opportunities, and Sustainability Determinants," underscores the urgent need for substantial investments in cybersecurity to enhance nations' and institutions’ ability to counter these rising threats.
Authored by Laetitia Pozniak, Associate Professor from Belgium, and Dimitri Laroutis, a marketing researcher at ESC AMIENS, France, the study stresses the critical role of public-private partnerships in advancing cybersecurity capabilities.
It pointed out the increasing threats, noting a significant rise in the number and variety of cyberattacks, leading to massive financial losses and disruptions to essential services.
The research emphasises that investing in cybersecurity is not a luxury but an urgent necessity to ensure security and stability.
It highlights the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in strengthening cyber defence mechanisms while cautioning against malicious actors’ potential misuse of AI.
The study also draws attention to the severe shortage of skilled professionals in the cybersecurity field, presenting a significant challenge for countries and institutions.
It notes that the cybersecurity sector offers promising investment opportunities, particularly with the ongoing shift towards digital transformation.
