ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

The National Center of Meteorology has forecasted a drop in temperatures for January, characterised by generally cool weather during the daytime and colder conditions at night. This change is attributed to the extension of a high-pressure system building over Siberia, which brings a cold air mass affecting both the country and the Arabian Peninsula.

For January 2025, the average temperatures are projected to be around the typical average or slightly higher, with an expected mean temperature of 18.3 °C.

Additionally, the region will experience a series of low-pressure systems moving from west to east. Sometimes, the country will also be influenced by the extension of the Red Sea trough. These pressure systems can lead to cloud formation on certain days, with a chance of rainfall throughout the month. Forecasts suggest that the average rainfall in January will be close to the normal levels, which is around 11.5 mm.

During this month, the country will experience strong northwesterly winds (Shamal), causing blowing sand and dust in inland areas, particularly in exposed regions. These winds will also lead to rough seas with increased wave heights.

Relative humidity is expected to rise, especially in the early mornings, enhancing the likelihood of fog and mist formation. The frequency of fog and mist is higher over islands compared to coastal areas.
