ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

TRENDS Research & Advisory released a new and innovative study highlighting the pivotal role played by artificial intelligence (AI) in the future of healthcare, particularly in extending lifespan and improving the quality of life. The study – AI and Longevity: Can Artificial Intelligence Help Humans Live Longer? – draws from the latest scientific research in this field and offers insights on how AI could transform the healthcare sector.

The English-language study, authored by Noor Al-Mazrouei, Head of the AI and Advanced Technology Programme at TRENDS, reveals AI’s success in identifying new genes and protein compounds directly linked to ageing. This discovery opens possibilities for developing more effective medications targeting these elements, thereby slowing ageing and combating age-related diseases.

According to the research, AI employs advanced algorithms to analyse vast amounts of genetic data, enabling a deeper understanding of the genetic basis of ageing and identifying genetic risk factors for specific diseases.

The study further explains that AI can tailor treatment plans individually by comprehensively analysing each patient’s health and genetic data, which increases treatment effectiveness and minimises side effects.

AI can even predict diseases before symptoms arise, allowing for earlier and more effective intervention. Despite AI’s vast potential in healthcare, the study acknowledges specific challenges, such as the need for clear ethical and legal standards for AI use, safeguarding patient data privacy, and fostering collaboration between healthcare experts and data scientists.

The TRENDS study posits that AI marks a real revolution in healthcare, becoming a powerful tool against ageing and enhancing healthy lifespan. As technology advances, it predicts remarkable innovations that fundamentally change how we approach healthcare. The study calls for increased investment in AI healthcare research and development and enhanced collaboration among governments, academic institutions, and private companies.

The study asserts that AI offers a new hope in combating ageing and achieving longer, healthier lives. With ongoing progress, a future where chronic diseases are curable and healthcare becomes more efficient and effective appears within reach.
