ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

The Abu Dhabi Police General Command, in collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Center, has urged the public to adhere to regulations and preventive measures when installing home surveillance systems under the slogan, "Rest Assured."

The recommended guidelines include:
Licensed Companies: Choose a company licensed by the relevant authorities for the installation and maintenance of surveillance systems.

Camera Features: Opt for cameras with advanced features, such as integration with smartphones, night vision capability, and motion detection.

Optimal Coverage: Ensure the cameras’ field of view is set to capture the best possible images of the desired area.

Privacy and Security: Safeguard user credentials by keeping usernames private, regularly updating passwords, and avoiding sharing them with others.

Regular Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance to ensure the system remains effective and operational.

The authorities emphasised that surveillance cameras are tools designed to capture images and videos for monitoring and recording events, thereby creating a safer home environment.

However, they highlighted the importance of selecting appropriate installation locations that respect privacy, given the unique designs and population densities of different homes.

Recommended Installation Areas
The top five suggested locations for installing cameras in homes include:
- Entrances and exits
- Vehicle parking areas
- Storage rooms
- Children's play areas
- The external fence

The Abu Dhabi Police also stressed the importance of not sharing or publishing footage captured by surveillance systems through any medium, including social media.

Furthermore, they advised securing the system in a safe location to prevent tampering and avoiding the coverage of private spaces within the home or neighbouring properties.
