DUBAI (ALETIHAD)

Dubai Police's General Department of Traffic has fined 12,019 vehicles since early this year for making unauthorised modifications that cause excessive noise and disturbances. These violations included significant changes to the vehicle's engine or chassis without a permit.

In total, 5,523 fines were issued to drivers of vehicles modified to create excessive noise, and 6,496 were issued to those who made significant changes to the vehicle's engine or chassis without a permit.

Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police, clarified that Article 2 of Decree No. 30 of 2023 on Vehicle Impoundment mandates the administrative impoundment of vehicles for "causing noise or disturbance during operation or driving." He noted that the release fee for an impounded vehicle can reach up to AED 10,000.

Brig. Bin Suwaidan cautioned against equipping vehicles with technologies that boost engine speed, as these can create noise and pose risks to residents in residential areas. He also warned all drivers against reckless and careless driving, stressing that the law penalizes those who operate vehicles in ways that endanger their own lives or the lives of others, as well as their safety and security, or that could damage the road.

Brig. Bin Suwaidan urged the community to report negative behaviours through the "Police Eye" or "We Are All Police" services available on the Dubai Police smart app or by calling 901. He also encouraged the public to support the "A Safe Road for Everyone" campaign by promoting responsible driving and road safety.

It's worth mentioning that Dubai Police carries out traffic awareness campaigns under the slogan "A Safe Road for Everyone." These efforts focus on improving road safety, increasing awareness among all road users, reducing traffic accidents, and fostering a strong traffic culture within the community.
