Legendary Brazilian striker and 1994 World Cup champion Romário warmly welcomed Aletihad’s delegation at the Brazilian Senate in a meeting that celebrated the enduring bonds between Brazil and the UAE.

Romário, known for his extraordinary sports career and dedication to public service, expressed great pleasure at meeting with Aletihad, engaging with Emirati media, and strengthening the relationship between his home country and the UAE.

During the meeting, Romário shared a conversation with Dr. Hamad Al-Kaabi, CEO of Aletihad News Centre, about the rich history of sports collaboration between the two countries. The World Cup-winning striker expressed his admiration for Emirati football and praised its remarkable development over the past decade.

A revered figure in football and widely regarded as one of the greatest players in history, Romário’s legacy is a masterclass in finishing, with over 1,000 goals to his name across all competitions, age categories, and unofficial matches.

Throughout his career, he played for major Brazilian clubs such as Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, and Flamengo, as well as prestigious European giants like Dutch PSV Eindhoven and Spain’s Barcelona and Valencia.

After retiring from football in 2008, Romário transitioned into politics, bringing the same passion and determination to his new role. Elected to the Brazilian Senate in 2015 and re-elected in 2022, he has focused on leveraging his sports background to drive social change, championing disability rights and policies that improve the quality of life for Brazilians.

He believes his experience in sports gives him a unique perspective on how to improve people's lives through both politics and sports.
