GUANGZHOU (WAM)

The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) and Sun Yat-Sen University in China (SYSU) have announced the winners of their joint research grants in the presence of Mariam Alshamsi, UAE Consul-General in Guangzhou.

The two selected projects—one focusing on innovative cooling technologies for photovoltaic (PV) systems and the other on sustainable water production—aim to address global challenges in energy efficiency and clean water access.

Sustainable Development Goals

The projects are key elements of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).

This announcement coincides with Sun Yat-Sen University's celebration of its 100th anniversary, underscoring its long-standing commitment to global partnerships and scientific innovation.

The projects are poised to make a substantial impact in the UAE, China, and beyond as countries seek effective methods to tackle climate change, optimise water resources, and transition to cleaner energy.

Prof. Ahmed Ali Alraeesi, Acting Vice Chancellor of UAEU, said, "This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to tackling global sustainability issues through innovative research. By focusing on solutions that address both energy and water needs, these projects are well-aligned with the UAE's vision for a sustainable future."

Professor Song Gao, President of SYSU, stated, "By adhering to principles of openness and integration, SYSU is dedicated to fostering exchanges and partnerships with distinguished academic institutions worldwide. As a global leader in education and research, UAEU has exemplified academic excellence and innovation on the international stage."
