Dr. Hamad Al Kaabi, Chief Aletihad News Center Officer, stressed Aletihad’s keenness to make the Aletihad Forum a window into the future as it aligns with the aspirations of the UAE and its pioneering development trajectory in the region.
In his address at the forum, Al Kaabi said: “Yesterday marked the 55th anniversary of the issuance of Aletihad newspaper, an occasion whose symbolism we draw determination and positive energy, to enhance the message of responsible media through purposeful and informative content that aligns with the vision of our wise leadership and expresses the hopes of our society.”
Since its launch in 1969, Aletihad newspaper has continued to express spirit of the national union, “a unified home”, as part of its mission entrusted on it by the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, while he was writing with his brothers, the Rulers of the Emirates, the first letters of the “dream nation”, Al Kaabi said.
Since then, Aletihad has been a witness to the founding, a contributor to the construction, and a supporter of the huge and rapid development efforts witnessed by the country, he said.
Amid the rapid development in the media sector, Aletihad is taking the initiative to continue to enhance the mechanisms of civilised and humane messages, through which it narrates the story of a nation that is the most advanced in the region.
Al Kaabi stressed that Aletihad, on its anniversary, has been organising an annual forum that represents a platform for understanding current challenges and analysing developments that concern society and the region.
He added that the 19th edition of the forum comes under the title “Artificial Intelligence: A Driver for Sustainable Development” to discuss the prospects and challenges of artificial intelligence, stressing that AI has become a focus of excellence in the UAE’s development process, in line with the goals of the UAE Centennial 2071 after it became a promising path that will double global spending on it by 2028 to reach $632 billion.
In his speech, Al Kaabi pointed out that Aletihad is keeping pace with the technological boom, and on November 19, 2022, Aletihad newspaper became the first publication in the Arab region to feature an article entirely written by AI, through the “Noor Model” for natural language processing of the Arabic language, which is the largest of its kind in the world, launched by the Technology Innovation Institute in Abu Dhabi.
The head of Aletihad News Center said: “After the ‘smart article’, many other steps have taken to employ artificial intelligence technologies in newsrooms and television and digital broadcasting platforms, by creating various types of virtual broadcasters that mimic our culture and speak our language, in addition to the ‘smart journalist’ and ‘smart speaker’ technologies.”
“We believe that artificial intelligence means a major leap in digital media, and brings in momentum in producing content in the shortest possible time and with high quality, and opens the door wide to developing and accelerating digital transformation, and contributes strongly to verifying the accuracy of data and ensuring the highest standards of quality in providing news services to the public,” he said.
